Zamyatin Renumbered

A 9 track leftfield/idm ep (42m 55s) — released September 20th 2019 on Magic + Dreams

As part of Bass Clef's reclaiming of his early material from the now-defunct Blank Tapes label, he presents 'Zamyatin Renumbered' an almost-album from 2007, now in its final form.

These tracks were originally split across two 12"s (confusingly titled "Zamyatin Tapes" Volumes 1 and 2) and one (unmastered) retailer-exclusive digital package ('Zamyatin Digitsed'). The previously unmastered tracks have now been carefully restored by Joe Caithness, and combined with the previous vinyl-only cuts which were mastered by the infamous Jason of legendary Dubstep cutting powerhouse Transition Mastering.

Almost all the track titles contain numbers – a reflection of my at-the-time obsession with Yevgeny Zamyatin's dystopian sci-fi novel "WE".

"1471" is soca-gone-wrong and stayed in the Clef live set for a long time. "One Hundred Point Three" was named after Rinse FM's original analogue frequency and was spun in 2007 by Aphex Twin at the Manchester Warehouse sessions and Radiohead spun "The Ballad Of The Broken 606" on a Radio 1 takeover set. Bass Clef always regretted not putting "Yevgeny's Letter To Stalin" on either of the twelves, so it is good to hear it finally mastered and sounding heavy.
